The sales onboarding has been completed, your new employee has their buddy, and you’re meeting them on a weekly basis (or more) to provide support. Here are some signs you need to have a performance conversation with your new hire:
😐 Missing targets consistently, a sign of underperformance: It's understandable that there is a ramp period in sales as well as onboarding and results might be slower to see in the beggining of employment. However, if after a couple of months there is no sign of improvement, then maybe this person is not motivated to improve, or cut out for this position.
🌲 Lack of growth mindset: A person that has a growth mindset is always being proactive in seeking ways to improve, wether they are in the Presidents Club, or struggling to hit quota. If your new hire is clearly struggling and not being proactive in seeking help e.g. seeking out leads, shadowing other team members, or asking for more support - maybe it's time to have this conversation.
⏰ Poor time management: They struggle to prioritise tasks, understand what their pipeline health is, or what they need to do in their deal contract management
☢ Low activity levels: Not making enough input to ensure a good output, not making enough calls, emails, meetings or creating proposals, this may indicate a lack of effort or commitment to a sales role
➖ Negative attitude: Rather than trying to improve themselves to try different ways to be productive, they complain about the product, their customers and others. Morale is low because rather than trying to improve, they complain constantly. Blaming others as opposed to taking accountability for their shortcomings.
🔖 Limited Product Understanding: Are they unable to talk about the product and its benefits or value proposition? If they can’t do it, they cannot convince prospects of their value.
Is it time to have a performance conversation or give feedback to your employee or find a new one?
